If you are looking for a day tour to one of the Whitsundays’ many island resorts, we can help you find the right one for you. Some islands cater to families and others are better suited to a romantic getaway. Transfer services operate from Abell Point Marina in Airlie Beach to many Whitsunday island resorts including Hamilton Island, Daydream Island Resort and Spa and Long Island. Enjoy a day of swimming, watersports, sun baking and maybe a few cocktails, or we can help you book some more Whitsunday accommodation, relaxing for a few days on an island resort. All the islands cater for day tripping guests including Daydream Island’s South End, especially tailored to day guests offering a resort pool, bakery, tavern, motorised watersports and an 18 hole mini golf course. Cruise to Hamilton Island and hire a buggy to explore the diversity of island activities, pools, restaurants, shops and bars. If something more remote appeals to you, choose from one of several Whitsunday day tour operators who offer three island cruises and spend the day island hopping to secluded beaches like Blue Pearl Bay and Whitehaven Beach. Whales and dolphins are a common sight, depending on the season.

Whitsunday Sailing Adventures – charter yachts from Airlie Beach
The ultimate Whitsunday Holiday experience would have to be a ‘bareboat charter’, offering a great Whitsunday accommodation alternative. Generally, a bareboat is a charter sail or power boat that comes without a skipper or crew. In other words, you’re the skipper, free to go where you want with your friends and family as the crew. It may sound scary, but with some guidance and state of the art equipment, most land-lubbers can safely enjoy this as another perfect Whitsunday accommodation option. Bareboat charters are extensively equipped and include a range of sailing yachts and powered motor cruisers to choose from.
For those who don’t wish to be in charge of their own vessel, there is a huge range of overnight charter boats offering two, three and four night trips. These sailing vessels range from budget to luxury Whitsunday accommodation and include a range of activities including snorkelling and diving.
There are 74 islands within the Whitsunday group. These tropical islands are fringed with coral reefs, white beaches and numerous safe anchorages. The outer Great Barrier Reef protects and reduces ocean swells, and sailing time between anchorages in most cases is less than 2 hours. The islands are part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, a protected area for marine life and as such fishing is restricted in certain areas.
Most of the Whitsunday accommodation island resorts welcome visiting yachts, offering evening entertainment, dining, and use of their facilities.
What better way to discover the islands and reef than from the air? There are a range of scenic flights which will be sure to leave you breathless. You could sneak away for a romantic picnic on a deserted island, propose while flying over world famous Heart Reef, be awed by the spectacular aerial view of Hill Inlet or even fly to Hayman Island for a day of luxury before returning back to your mainland Whitsunday accommodation! Whether it’s in a sea plane or a helicopter, or even in a bubble helicopter with the doors off – you’ll be able to take your own postcard pictures of some of the most stunning scenery in the world.
For those who prefer the water, day cruises operate to the outer Great Barrier Reef, where fully equipped pontoons offer the ultimate reef experience. For Whitsunday accommodation with a difference, you can even sleep overnight on the pontoon if you wish!

Queensland’s most beautiful beach
Titles like that aren’t given out easily, yet it’s immediately obvious why Whitehaven Beach is considered to be so special. The 7km of pure white silica sand glistens in the sun (but the sand doesn’t get hot), and the crystal clear aqua waters are entrancing. At the northern end of Whitehaven Beach is Hill Inlet, a stunning cove where the tide shifts the sand and water to create a beautiful fusion of colours. Don’t miss the walk to the lookout on Whitsunday Island where you can take advantage of the best views of both Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet.
However you choose to explore Whitehaven Beach on a range of Whitsunday tours, it will be an experience that you will remember for a lifetime.
From Airlie Beach Motor Lodge, your Whitsunday accommodation base, exploring Airlie Beach and it’s surrounds will surprise you! There are just as many exciting and beautiful locations on the mainland to experience as on the water. Adventurous groups will enjoy the stunning views and at times challenging walking tracks of the Whitsunday Great Walk. Walk the whole 28km in one day, or camp out at one of the two camping grounds along the track. The views make it all worth it!
For the slightly less adventurous looking to enjoy a National Park, head to Cedar Creek Falls, along Conway Road. During the wet season the stunning waterfall flows freely, and the water pools at the bottom offer swimming year round. Just a short drive from your Whitsunday accommodation, Hydeaway Bay and Cape Gloucesteroffer some of the mainland’s best swimming beaches.
Relax at the Airlie Beach Lagoon and let the kids play in the water or on the playgrounds, while you sizzle up a BBQ lunch and enjoy the view out to the islands. A great family day before returning to your Whitsunday accommodation….all free!
Airlie Beach and Surrounds…
Airlie Beach’s weekly Saturday markets on the Airlie foreshore offer a quaint range of local arts and crafts, fresh fruit and vegetables and much more in a relaxed and friendly environment.
The Esplanade, Airlie’s ‘Eat Street’, provides a range of restaurants and cafes close to your Whitsunday accommodation, where you can sit and watch the waves lap on the beach and enjoy cool sea breezes while you sip a coffee or cocktail. A range of delicacies are available to fulfill your breakfast, lunch and dinner needs, in a relaxed atmosphere only Airlie can create.
Airlie Beach is the gateway to Queensland’s magnificent Whitsunday Islands and Airlie Beach Motor Lodge is the perfect Whitsunday accommodation haven to prepare for your adventure out to the islands, or to refresh after fun filled days.
